Entanglement and decoherence of a micromechanical resonator via coupling to a Cooper-pair box.
We analyze the quantum dynamics of a micromechanical resonator capacitively coupled to a Cooper-pair box. With appropriate quantum state control of the Cooper box, the resonator can be driven into a superposition of spatially separated states. The Cooper box can also be used to probe the decay of the resonator superposition state due to environmental decoherence.

Micromechanical resonators with fundamental vibrational mode frequencies in the range 10MHz–1GHz can now be fabricated [1, 2]. Applications include fast, ultrasensitive force and displacement detectors [3], electrometers [4, 5], and radio frequency signal processors [6]. However, the advances in the development of micromechanical devices also raise the fundamental question of whether mechanical...
متن کاملGround state cooling of a nanomechanical resonator via a Cooper pair box qubit
In this paper we present a scheme for ground state cooling of a flexural mode of a nanomechanical beam incorporated in a loop-shaped Cooper-pair box (CPB) circuit. Via the Lorentz force coupling of the beam motion to circulating CPB-circuit currents, energy is transferred to the CPB qubit which acts as a dissipative two-level system. The cooling process is driven by a detuned gate-voltage drive...

– This paper is devoted to an analysis of the experiment by Nakamura et al. (Nature 398, 786 (1999)) on the quantum state control in Josephson junctions devices. By considering the relevant processes involved in the detection of the charge state of the box and a realistic description of the gate pulse we are able to analyze some aspects of the experiment (like the amplitude of the measurement c...
متن کاملMass spectrometry based on a coupled Cooper-pair box and nanomechanical resonator system
Nanomechanical resonators (NRs) with very high frequency have a great potential for mass sensing with unprecedented sensitivity. In this study, we propose a scheme for mass sensing based on the NR capacitively coupled to a Cooper-pair box (CPB) driven by two microwave currents. The accreted mass landing on the resonator can be measured conveniently by tracking the resonance frequency shifts bec...
